New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs

The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NJDMAVA) oversees the state’s Army and Air National Guard and provides services and benefits to New Jersey’s service members, veterans, and their families. Its mission includes maintaining ready forces for civil and military operations and delivering comprehensive veterans’ services.

What They Do for NJATOD Members

  • Connect veterans and their families to benefits, healthcare, and support services, including those related to behavioral health and recovery.
  • Provide a point of coordination for NJATOD programs serving veterans who may be eligible for state or federal veterans’ services.
  • Support initiatives that address the unique needs of military populations, including trauma, co-occurring conditions, and reintegration challenges.

Why It Matters

Many individuals in opioid treatment and recovery services have a history of military service. Partnering with NJDMAVA helps NJATOD members connect these patients to the benefits, supports, and specialized resources they have earned, improving continuity of care and long-term stability for veterans in recovery.
